A fine document of select tracks from earliest and later session, spanning RCS's recording history beginning in 2002 to the end of 2003. Eclectic instrumental grooves, a pleasure to hear.
This is a collection of tracks made before and after the work that went into
Don't Mind if I Do. Overall, less intentionally whimsical than the other album, more focused on instrumental grooviness, and still there is something --odd-- about this album. From the opening track, "Open Palms," to "Death of Oolong" (a tribute to the famous Japanese pancake-wearing bunny), to "Snake Headed Dolls," a laid-back shamanistic dance number, this album pulls together some diverse threads that were not touched on by the other release.
In its year of existence, Rolling Calf Sinfonette created a rather prolific body of work, constructed entirely of samples and loops gotten from the internet. It seems that one might be able to build a music career without spending any money at all, thanks to the web.
